Our Reach

The Need

Our current VFW Post 1638 building located at 205 North Cleveland was a Grand Republic of the Army building built in 1904. While this building has served us well for many years, it has crippled our ability to serve the growing needs of our veterans.

• Limited accessibility to veterans with disabilities or special needs.
• Unable to provide the needed support for aging veterans.
• Limited seating
• Limited parking
• Escalating maintenance & repairs
• Utility costs
• 8 essential organizations using a building that cannot accommodate basic
  member requirements.

The Vision

The Northwoods Veteran’s Post will be built on the corner of Sixth and Johnson Street, in Merrill Wisconsin and will provide service and support opportunities by empowering veterans and their families while fostering comradeship, democracy, and patriotism through the preservation of local veterans and scouting organizations.

The Northwoods Veterans Post uniting 8 organizations will be one of only a few joint organizational posts in the nation providing unique opportunities to bridge the gap between Veterans, youth, and the private sector. The building will provide a home for our Nation’s first United States Military Chaplains registry opening up opportunities for continued support all over the world.
